Today we prepared for you a sample document you can use in grant request. We will take reference of the Grant Request Proposal we have prepared for Hope for Future Foundation which had the activities of empowering teen mothers in Kano and Katsina States of Nigeria.
PROJECT TITLE: EMPOWERING TEEN MOTHERS IN KANO AND KATSINA STATES IN NIGERIA
1. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
According to the UN, in 2020 young people (12 to 24 years old) accounted for 33% of the global population, making them the largest demographic across the globe with 90 per cent of whom living in developing countries, where they tend to make up a large proportion of the population. The Youth is the group of population that need to be empowered in order to improve their quality of life. There are numerous models that youth empowerment programs use that help youth achieve empowerment. A variety of youth empowerment initiatives are underway around the world. These programs can be through non-profit organizations, government organizations, schools or private organizations.
As it is the case for many African Countries, the youth in Nigeria face numerous challenges and problems such us unemployment, drug abuse, teen pregnancies, poverty, lack of sufficient skills to compete on the growing internal and international markets, etc.
In Order to address some of these challenges and to create greater community changes by the developing youth individual capacity, in 2020 we created Hope for the Future Foundation, which is an organization with the missions of empowering the youth through different initiatives and activities.
The current proposal seeks to empower and support needy teen mothers in Kano and Katsina States in Nigeria.
2. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
2.1. General objective
The general objective is to train the youth, particularly the neediest teenage mothers with vocational and entrepreneurship skills to restore hope and transform their future and hence the entire future generation with socio-economic empowerment.
2.2. Specific objectives
- To restore hope to the disadvantaged teen mothers by ensuring they receive quality and competent skills to survive on and transform their future.
- To conduct Vocational Trainings, especially soap making trainings to most disadvantaged teenage mothers.
- To ensure skills development for the youth and teen mothers in the fields of financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
- To provide tools and equipment to the trained teen mothers so that they can be able to employ themselves immediately after training, reducing the unemployment gap.
- To encourage and facilitate the trained teen mothers to work in cooperatives in order to improve their living conditions.
- To reduce the crime rate in our communities by taking teenagers away of prostitution and other misconducts resulting from poverty.
3. PROBLEM ANALYSIS & NEED ASSESSMENT
Teen pregnancy remains major threat for Nigerian society in both rural and urban areas. According to the National Population Commission in Nigeria, 23% of girls aged between 15 and 19 years old get pregnant every year.
Each year, Nigeria counts about 400,000 unplanned births and the the half of these births are teenage girls between 15 and 19 years old.
Recently, the problem of teen pregnancy has taken a faster pace than ever. The upsurge of this phenomenon goes hand in hand with the heaviness of the burden that weighs on the shoulders of the community and the entire nation in all aspects of life. Addressing this phenomenon is not a work of just one person or one category of people. It is the responsibility and the task of each and every one to bring supports of all kinds.
Adolescent mothers and their children are a high-risk group broth physically and emotionally. They are at greater risk for physical, cognitive and emotional problems. Some of the challenges and problems faced by teen mothers in rural areas include, but not limited to poverty, malnutrition, emotional problems such as depression, drug and alcohol use, lack of education due to school dropouts after pregnancy, family problems and domestic violence, forced marriages, etc.
In most of the cases, in order to survive theses problems and to overcome bad living conditions, teen mothers turn to prostitution, drug abuse and robbery to support themselves, their babies and families.
After realizing that the responsibility to protect the status of the human life and dignity lies on our shoulder, we decided to support the teenage mothers by creating “Hope for Future Foundation”, which is Foundation dedicated to supporting, training and Counselling teen mothers in order to help them improve their living conditions.

- Reduction in crime rate like robbery and drug abuse.

- Job creation hence improved socio-economic lives and the communities’ general standards of living.
- Poverty reduction due to job creation and hence better lives in the rural communities.
- Improving of the community’s hygiene conditions as the project focuses on training people in soap making
